Stupi dity, selfish ness and ag gressivene ss then c ome to the sur face in this society unde r threat. In the film& amp;#39;s ke y scene, a w oman is rap ed by the sel f-styled l eader. Zden uk Mahler,  who would l ater work o n Forman& amp;#39;s exa mination Moza rt Amadeus, w orked on the script . The dir ector Eva ld Schorm ( 1929-1988) was  one of th e most orig inal members of the Czech &am p;quot;New Wave ". During the &a mp;quot;n ormaliz ation&amp ;quot; er a, Schorm spent many  years unable t o direc t.
